Mite seam like a stupid question but whats the correct oil 2 run in the swift ive been using 10w 40 but i just saw an advert on ebay for 5w 30 and it says its the correct oil for the engine code plus my tappets are noisey as fook since i put the cams in and a friend said about putting DIESEL in my oil to thin it dwn, seams a bit wierd if u ask me but im not exactly clued up on these thing Embarassed n e advise would be appreiciated.

damn windows updates shut pc down halfway through first response...anyhoo
the manual states:
10w-40 is suitable for temperatures ranging from -20 to over 40
5w-30 is ok below -30 to +30
10w-30 is good between -20 and +30
so whatever is in there should be ok but with noisy tappets it might be worth trying a different viscosity
as for diesel, while it has marginal lubricating properties I would not advise it, for the sake of an oil change its not worth the risk.

Try the thinner oil see what happens. its relatively cheap, also replace the filter of course.
I have read somewhere that using a quality diesel engine oil can help clean out the engine and lifters also. apparently the diesel oil has mild detergents and when used for 2-3000 miles helps remove the crud built up in and engine usually filled with cheap nasty oils. always use a quality oil, always!

There must be a difference.
