When I did mine I took it back to metal with some nitro, couple of coats of etch primer, few coats of the heat paint, baked it in the oven at 100deg, and a few coats of proper engine laquer and baked it again
The trick is to do it when the mrs is out Wink

I used folia tec brake caliper paint.
Been on my calipers for about 10 years no probs at all. So i did the rocker cover with it last year and it still looks good so far.

It's all in the prep i have been in body repairs (painter) for over 25 years
bare metal
2k etch/wash coat
2k high build primer
Either water base coat then 2k Lacquer
Or 2k solid colour
No need for heat resistant paint just keep the 2k paint to a minimal thickness ie don't load it up to much .(chipping will be the only problem)
I have a show car (mini sorry)(and old scooters) i have painted rocker covers /sumps/ blocks/ rad covers..etc they have been done for over 5years plus covered 1000's of miles never had a problem.

I have an idea of a design for my rocker cover, look forward to seeing how yours turns out.
What sort of price do you think you can bring them in at?
And the only place you have to use heat resistant paints should be brake calipers, exhausts and turbo's, the rest of the engine obviously still gets hot but nowhere near the temps of the exhaust etc.
